Productos de Petén is a family business that began its history as the San Nicolas sawmill, founded by the family’s grandfather, where they converted wood from logs to boards, but this changed over time, from 2005 to 2008 began the line of Productos de Petén, where it began with the concept of having finished products, and not just offering raw materials.
Alenka Tager, Commercial and Marketing Manager of Productos de Petén indicates: “We are a forest industrial company, with renewable products that come from properly authorized forests.”
With more than 40 years in the commercial and industrial market, they started offering plywood, then the topic of solid boards had emerged with which it was no longer just working with soft wood but starting with hard woods. In 2005 they started with the door factory to take advantage of the raw material that was available, because the topic of wood is quite adaptable, work began on baseboards, floors, and pergolas that became trends.
The principal market is Guatemala, however , they began to export to other countries such as El Salvador, Honduras, and in some opportunities to Mexico . Also, Following the demands of the market, they have innovated in their products, adapting to technology, since the use of wood is changing, it adapts to the times and is combined with other materials; its main motto is to offer functional, practical, and innovative products for people.
Due to wood adapts to other types of materials, they have tried to innovate by offering the consumer what they want, what they are looking for, complete happiness, and taking advantage of the raw material, experience and machinery, they began to offer other more handmade and elaborate such as tables, benches, chairs, that is why every year they take advantage of participating in EXPOMUEBLE of AGEXPORT, trying to bring something innovative.
“Not only do they relation us that Peten’s products are doors, skirting boards, floors and pergolas, but something different, that’s why we always try to bring some furniture, some bench, some chair, combined or 100% wood and that’s where we mark the difference,” said Tager.
They have different target groups and different markets to address, they have the raw material for a carpenter, but also the complete version of the final product for the customer. They work with all kinds of people: carpenters, engineers, developers, big constructions, or even the final client who is building their house and is seeing all the details of the finishes. They have been working with hotel lines, developers, and also with various housing projects such as independent houses.
After the pandemic, they decided to explore digital topics and social networks, investigating what was new in the market, evolving in the world of wood to take advantage of new trends. They adapt to what each era requires, with the support of technology and seminars, they investigate every day, since wood does not go out of style and adapts to different materials or current elements, in addition to the fact that people are very interested in what natural and handmade. Today, Productos de Petén is part of the AGEXPORT COFAMA Commission, benefiting from achieving good relations with other countries, making themselves known, getting involved in exports and discovering new markets.
“We believe a lot in this fair, we were at the beginning of Expomueble, because it helps us a lot to make ourselves known, to position ourselves, to attract customers. Not only in the sale that takes place right there or those days that the exhibition lasts, but in the future, we have had good results and return on investment. Even networking with other wood companies to form strategic alliances and support each other”. Indicated the Commercial and Marketing Manager of Productos de Petén.
For this year they began to work on garden and patio furniture such as 100% solid wood benches and chairs, also a kitchenette; especially for small spaces such as apartments, which is something new that they bring to the event, they are not limited to bringing doors, baseboards, or floor samples but also something innovative, offering the raw material for all audiences. Including new products focused on the current trend.
In the future they hope to continue taking advantage of raw materials that Guatemala offers, as well as working with the products they already have and that are in big buildings, but also focusing on more elaborate and handcrafted furniture. His vision is to support local companies a lot so that they do not import materials that the country has and to be able to exploit it to the maximum.
