Representing more than 1,600 companies, mostly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and thousands of small producers, wishes to transmit the following to all our international partners:
It has been 40 years of leading public and private efforts to position Guatemala as a competitive supplier of more than 4,000 products and services in more than 145 countries around the world.
Around 1.5 million Guatemalans are involved in the export activities of clothing and textiles, vegetables, citrus, mangoes, berries, melons, bananas, honey, avocadoes, ornamental plants, coffee, cocoa, sesame seeds, agricultural supplies, agrochemicals, handicrafts, plastics, furniture and wood products, hygiene products, food products, beverages, diversified manufactures, medicines, electronics, cosmetics, rubber, fisheries and aquaculture products, sustainable tourism services, medical tourism, laboratories, technology, creative industries, logistics, consulting, and contact center & BPO services; whose employment depends of international trade.
After sixteen days of demonstrations and roadblocks, we find ourselves working and participating in the dialogue between government, private sector, and representatives of diverse economic activities in Guatemala, to bring our economy back to normal standards and continue trading high quality products as soon as possible.
Products from farms and factories are ready to be shipped to the world, where a lot of our customers have been waiting for their shipments. Guatemalan exporters are overly concern, because of the prestige of their companies and the promise to deliver on time, they are doing everything they can with the hopes that this situation will be solved soon.
We recognize that these delayed shipments represent millions in financial losses for our exporters. Furthermore, Guatemala’s reputation is a crucial matter and we’re working on keeping the promise to deliver quality products and services on time, not willing to compromise our good relationship with partners and investors.
We reaffirm that AGEXPORT is committed to upholding the principles of democracy, the fight against corruption, the respect for the laws of the country, and advocating for stronger institutions for all.
