Shrimp producers received training on food safety standards

Proyectos de la Unión Europea en Guatemala

AGEXPORT’s Aquaculture and Fishery Commission, jointly with the European Union’s “More Competitive Cooperatives and SMEs” program, offered a training session on food safety standards for workers of shrimp producers on March 11-12, 2019.

The training program focused on helping 50 small and medium companies to comply with the necessary quality standards to guarantee food safety on shrimp products.

With the help from the European Union, we seek to prepare our small and medium enterprises to be able to comply with all requirements from international markets related with food safety and quality. With this, our companies would be able to offer their products aboard and recognize the importance of establishing international businesses; said Mr. Moises Merida, AGEXPORT’s International Alliances Manager.

The “More Competitive Cooperatives and SMEs” program is oriented on improving and strengthening the capabilities and competitiveness of small and medium companies, cooperatives and associations of Central America to seize the opportunities of international trade, especially with the European Union due to the Association Agreement signed between this market and the Central American region.
