Guatemalan exporters learned about trade opportunities in Germany
AGEXPORT’s Market Development and Trade Promotion department, with support from the European Union’s AL-Invest 5.0 program, the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Guatemalan Embassy in Germany organized AGEXPORT’s first mission trip to Germany.
This mission trip had the objective of taking one Salvadoran and four Guatemalan companies to learn about trade opportunities present in Germany and hold business meetings with key clients in Frankfurt, Germany. The mission trip took place on November 5-9th,2018; said Mr. Byron Lemus, Coordinator of the South American and German markets at AGEXPORT.
The delegation of this mission trip was integrated by the following companies: Achiote Croplantains, Comercial Agricola Povas, Finca Punterrieles and Lazos S.V (Salvadoran firm).
The Guatemalan delegation had a 5-day agenda with different activities in the German cities of Frankfurt and Saarbrücken. These meetings were not only organized with German buyers. We also used this opportunity to explore other European markets such as Russia, the Netherlands, among others; said Mr. Lemus.
The different activities organized were focused on generating trade businesses by scheduling meetings between the Guatemalan and Salvadoran firms and representatives of local supermarkets, distributors and importers in Germany.
The mission trip also included visits to important German supermarkets to be able to study the market on-site and establish benchmarks of prices. Lastly, the companies also visited key players related with boosting bilateral trade between Guatemala and Germany, such as the Frankfurt’s Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Economy Ministry, the Saarlouis municipality and the Chamber of Commerce of Saarland.
