AGEXPORT’s Fishery and Aquaculture Sector decided to support different communities in Guatemala during the COVID-19 health emergency.
With this in mind, the company Acuamaya, S.A. decided to implement a special project at the Mayasal farm called “Safe Community”. This project was also implemented on two other farms called La Danta and Saquijá.

This program seeks to protect workers of Acuamaya and their families, as well as residents of their communities and neighboring communities from being infected with COVID-19. The Mayasal farm, that produces shrimp, is located in Casas Viejas, Pasaco, Jutiapa department.
This program includes the following actions:

  1. Training: The company implemented several talks and conferences with its workers and community members on different topics regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, including symptoms, how a person can be infected and ways to prevent and control the virus.
  2. Increasing health personnel: The company decided to hire health workers specifically for the COVID-19 pandemic, which will be responsible of identifying people with COVID-19 symptoms, implement daily visits to the houses of the company’s workers and submit recurring reports to the company.
  3. Purchase raw materials to produce 5,000 face masks: The company also established an alliance with the local authorities to provide raw materials and have local dressmakers produce 5,000 face masks.
  4. Delivery of face masks: Acuamaya purchased enough masks to provide to the local authorities, so that the 5,000 face masks produced locally can be sold to neighboring communities and increase financial resources of these families.
