The European Union’s program “More Competitive Cooperatives and SMEs” joined hands with AGEXPORT’s Avocado Committee to start a special program to help small and medium avocado producers with technical assistance, diagnosis and Global G.A.P. and Agriculture Best Practices pre-certifications.
This program focuses on teaching avocado producers all requirements to comply with best-practices certifications and successfully receive such accreditations. More than 40 small and medium avocado producers of Alta Verapaz, Baja Verapaz, Chimaltenango, Sacatepequez, Solola, El Progreso, Jutiapa, Jalapa and Escuintla are expected to participate in this program.
The main objective pursued with this project is to develop capabilities of small and medium avocado producers to raise their competitiveness and be able to successfully join international supply chains and export their products abroad. Topics to cover during the training sessions will include compliance with international regulations, quality standards and different certifications required depending on the product’s final destination.
