AGEXPORT has planned for 2020 a series of activities to guide exporters to strategic markets in the world and attract customers from these markets as well. Its first action towards this goal will take place in January 2020 with the official presentation of the “Best Markets, Products and Services” study. This document details specific market niches with strong potential to promote Guatemalan products.
For 2020, we expect a good year for our exports, as we will pursue to increase our presence in different markets, mainly in Asia. We will also look to increase our exports of garments and textiles to Central America. With the approval in Congress of the trade agreement between Guatemala and the UK, we also expect to increase our exports to this market with certainty over the conditions for Guatemalan products once the UK leaves the European Union; said the CEO of AGEXPORT.
Other actions from government authorities are expected for 2020 and will also boost Guatemalan exports. These actions include projects to diversify agricultural exports, regulations to allow companies to hire on part-time schedules, investment attraction plans, approval of trade agreements with South Korea and Canada, improving the country’s port infrastructure, the reconstruction of the highway to Puerto Quetzal, among others.
Our export companies expect to increase their presence in Asian markets in 2020, while also raising the country’s competitiveness with public policies and Congress regulations that close the gaps of our main competitive weaknesses; said Mr. Carballido.
