The Weaving Peace project, financed by the United States Agency for Development (USAID), and implemented by Creative Associatives, carries out the Economic Empowerment of Women component under the responsibility of the Guatemalan Association of Exporters (AGEXPORT), which has as its objective to contribute to gender equality through enterprises led by women in the departments of San Marcos, Quiché, Quetzaltenango, and Totonicapán.
The importance of the Weaving Peace project
AGEXPORT started the component gathering 476 women (data updated to August 22, 2023) in 42 communities of the 4 departments. These approaches introduces the importance of the economic empowerment of women, as well as to motivate the groups to start a culture of entrepreneurship through associativity, which will allow the establishment of 44 potential enterprises.
At AGEXPORT we seek that women have decision-making power, promote leadership and that they can work together to achieve specific objectives, which represent economic income, and these allow them to improve their quality of life and that of their families. Appropriating their spaces and helping them to make their ideas come true are tools that we are sure will help them a lot to achieve sustainable development” – Mónica Mazariegos, Coordinator of the Economic Empowerment of Women component of AGEXPORT.
In a period of 13 months, 44 associative rural microenterprises will be formed with the 476 women participating in the component and AGEXPORT will aid and technical support in each department in order to generate business at the local level.
