Innovating with Natural Medicine in the pharmaceutic, alimentary, and cosmetic industry

Eugenia Behar de Farchi is part of the family team that runs QUINFICA, a drugstore and laboratory founded in the 1960s as ICA and in 1987 as QUINFICA by her father, dedicated to manufacturing and selling raw materials for the food, cosmetic, agribusiness, and pharmaceutical industries. in Guatemala and Central American countries.

“We are a purely family business, the team is made up of three women: my mother, my sister, me and a man, my husband. When I was 16 years old, my father died and my mother took charge of the company, she always worked shoulder to shoulder with him and I grew up in a house that was an example of hard-working and forward-thinking women, until now my mother never stopped working,” Eugenia mentioned.

One of Oshi’s biggest dreams, as she is affectionately called, was to be a pharmaceutical chemist; However, she turned her attention to business administration being that she always liked business and sales and that is how her husband supported her to continue studying and after two years of marriage she had her first daughter, but that did not stop her continue with their studies.

For her, taking care of her daughters at home and attending the university three times a week was not enough, she began to go to the laboratory twice a week with her young daughters and that is how she began to get more involved in the family business and since then she has dedicated herself to being involved in the entire process of the company.

Through the years she has evolved in the company, contributing hes unified financial and administrative knowledge to her passion for medicinal plants. Oshi managed to specialize in phytomedicine, taking courses at the University of Buenos Aires, where she was given the opportunity to study thanks to her work in the laboratory.

“I taught my daughters that work and study were fundamental, and when they were five years old saw me go to the university and saw me work. Today I have two professional daughters who are grateful that I taught them the value of work, study, and effort,” she added

He is passionate about formulating natural products and works closely with laboratory professionals to contribute ideas and through them, formulate the necessary therapeutic doses for each product with scientific knowledge.

Within the company it will be in charge of the maquila area, advising the entire process from the creation of the client’s idea, to having the final product that is made with natural pharmaceutical products, dietary supplements, functional foods, and cosmetics. Thus, QUINFICA has achieved exports of maquila services, finished products and raw materials to Honduras, Costa Rica, and El Salvador.

Also supports to the sales team with the subject of training, instructing themselves with the new trends of natural products, medicinal plants, collaborates hand in hand with the regulatory area by being aware of the new regulations with what they must comply with, labeling, studies, and everything that is required for the type of products they handle.

The businesswoman gives training, workshops on natural products, natural medicine, emotions and health, healthy aging, because she is passionate about sharing her knowledge and transferring her passion for plants to others to teach them how health can be obtained through the plants.

Some of her greatest achievements as a woman are her daughters and her family; In addition, as a professional she has managed to increase the number of people who love natural health, who believe in plants as a medicine and to promote Phytotherapy, a scientifically supported medicine system with a therapeutic function.

For the future, Eugenia Farchi commented that she will be enjoying of what she does every day and hopes to contribute in order to provide employment and development to Guatemala and generate economic benefits for the population.
