Within the framework of 40 years, we want to highlight the 5 milestones that each export sector has reached throughout this time. The manufacturing sector emerged with handicrafts, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, beverages, and nostalgic foods, among others. Today it is a sector that integrates around 500 associates and generates just over a million jobs.
In 2021 achieved a record by exceeding US$5 billion in exports, a growth of 28 percent compared to 2020, a milestone that was possible thanks to the drive of those who participate in the export chain.
In 2018, the Manufacturing Sector exported to more than 140 countries and products such as food and beverages made their way into Middle Eastern markets. Cosmetics and hygiene, furniture, plastics, handmade products, and other manufactures are positioned for their quality, competitiveness and excellent customer service, characteristic of Guatemalan businessmen.
In 2019, the Pharmaceutical and Rubber Nucleus was created and strengthened within the Diverse Manufactures Commission. This had a strategy focused on the development of the subsectors, allowing a greater focus on the development of exports.
In 2020 Guatemala does not stop: The Pharmaceutical, Food and Beverage, Cosmetics and Hygienic, and Plastics sectors are prioritized in the McKinsey firm’s competitiveness study as one of the sectors with the greatest growth potential. The Manufacturing sector has the greatest potential for job creation in the country.
Exports of manufactured products reached a record by exceeding 5 billion dollars, with a growth of 28% compared to what was registered in 2020. This milestone was possible thanks to the drive of those who participate in the export chain. Entrepreneurs in the Manufacturing Sector have shown great resilience and ability to innovate, which today makes us one of the most solid sectors, which offers great benefits throughout the country.
During 2021, exports from the Furniture, Wood and Products Sector reported a positive variation of 44%. Entrepreneurs knew how to take advantage of the opportunities presented by nearshoring purchases to CA and the United States. Additionally, they organized special versions of their EXPOMUEBLE fair with the purpose of strengthening sales in the local market.
In 2022 is a year of opportunities for the sector, Strengthened agenda on issues of access to markets and businesses focused on the B2B segment, managing to hold presential events at a national and international level, as well as the incorporation of new proposals that will strengthen MSMEs in Guatemala. More companies joined to the international market access strategy, so far, the sector grows 14% in its exports, expecting to continue at that rhythm by the end of 2022.
