“Authorized Economic Operator” Congress: a strategic public-private alliance to raise competitiveness

AGEXPORT through its Export Services Commission (SIEX) is currently organizing a national congress to promote the “Authorized Economic Operator” credential as a tool for Guatemalan exporting firms to raise competitiveness. The event will take place on August 28, 2018 at AGEXPORT’s headquarters.

This event (whose first edition took place on 2017) plans to gather business leaders, customs authorities of Latin American, government authorities and private sector organizations.

This second edition of the “Authorized Economic Operator” Congress will offer attendants four different panels on:

  • Authorized Economic Operator, a competitiveness tool for Guatemala
  • Improvements on the approval of Authorized Economic Operators by customs services in Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica and Panama.
  • Benefits for exporting and importing firms of being approved as Authorized Economic Operators
  • Success stories of firms already working as Authorized Economic Operators

Since 2016, AGEXPORT has implemented action plans to share the importance of this credential as a tool to ease trade and provide higher levels of security to all the logistics chain through training and advisory.

This second edition of the Congress would delve on the importance of strengthening relations between firms and the customs authorities. Through “Authorized Economic Operators” firms are able to improve relations with customs and border authorities, which guarantees security, eases trade processes and ensures agile and competitive customs operations in the country.

Added to that, “Authorized Economic Operators” help the country comply with regulations set on the Standards to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade (SAFE Framework); regulations that were accepted by all World Customs Organization members.
